Sport Sunglasses

Sports Sunglasses, Sunglasses, Polarized Sunglasses

Sport sunglasses have surfaced in recent years, along with participation in outdoor sport activities such as fishing, snowboarding, boating, kayaking, skiing, golfing, beach volleyball and others. Polarized sunglasses that are durable and offer specialized performance are an important tool for the outdoor enthusiast.

Sunglass manufacturers are developing innovative new sport sunglasses to meet the demands of both casual and competitive athletes and provide the best functionality possible under extreme conditions. The results: lightweight, flexible, durable materials, no-slip components that do not fail in the heat of the moment and, of course a wide variety of lenses.

Sports Sunglasses-What to Look For

Everyone knows that polarized lenses are important for fishing sunglasses. What other features should I look for when choosing a pair of Polarized Sunglasses?

Sport Sunglasses - Comfort is an Important Factor

When choosing your pair of fishing sunglasses, consider getting a very light weight frame that does not put pressure points on the side of your temples or bridge of your nose. Since athletes and fishermen tend to spend long hours in the sun, sometimes from sun-up to sundown, comfort is a very important factor to consider. Bulky, uncomfortable sunglasses can be annoying when wearing sport sunglasses for five hours or more at a time. Heavy frames that do not fit properly can also leave red, irritating marks on the bridge of your nose. Good quality lenses are important when choosing your polarized sunglasses, but comfort is a very important factor.

Sport Sunglasses with Non -Slip Frames

When choosing your sport sunglasses look for a pair of non-slip frames that will not slip or slide off your face. This can be very annoying when you have to constantly be adjusting or pushing your fishing sunglasses back onto your face. When choosing your fishing sunglasses, try to find a pair that has a curvature that conforms to the shape of your face, or has the flexibility in the frames where they can be adjusted for a perfect fit.

Sport Sunglasses With A Wide Temple or Protective Side Lens

We've all heard about the damaging effects of the sun, especially when you're sport on a lake or ocean, where the sunlight is reflecting off the surface of the water. A good pair of polarized sunglasses will have a protective side lens or wide temple, which covers the sensitive skin around the corners of your eyes. This is the area where you get crow's feet and wrinkling of the skin. In addition, a side lens or sports wrap frame will protect the eyes from dust and the tearing effects of the wind.

Sport Sunglasses That Offer Peripheral Vision

It's important to be able to see easily in all directions when wearing your sport sunglasses. Fishermen and boaters for example, have high powered sport or bass boats that can travel at speeds of 70 MPH or more. When traveling at these high speeds, it's very important to have 100% peripheral vision to see other boats coming from all directions. Sunglasses that have limited vision can be dangerous when traveling at high speeds. When choosing your fishing sunglasses, make sure you get a pair that has a wrap around type frame that provides 100% peripheral vision.

Durability  - Sport Sunglasses that have a durable Frame and Lens Construction

Another factor that fishermen and athletes tend to ignore when choosing sport sunglasses is durability of the frames, especially the finish. A good pair of polarized sunglasses should have a UV resistant coating on the frames, which will protect them from the intense sunlight that they are exposed to every day. Having a UV resistant finish on your fishing sunglasses will prevent the paint from blistering and peeling when being exposed to the sun.

Protective Case

Another feature that can be overlooked when purchasing sport sunglasses is a protective case that will add many years of enjoyment to your sunglasses. When choosing your fishing sunglasses, look for a pair that come with a protective carrying case. A good protective case will protect the lenses and frames on your polarized sunglasses from being scratched.

Sport Sunglasses for High Performance - Additional Info

Perhaps the most important elements of effective polarized sunglasses are the optical quality and visual enhancement properties of the lenses. Many lens tints such as brown, green, gray, yellow and orange are now available, with each color suitable for specific circumstances. Skiers in snow would want the high contrast provided by amber lenses, whereas gray lenses are best for preserving real world colors in bright sunlight. Poly carbonate lenses are the best choice for fishing sunglasses because they are light weight, super strong and more impact-resistant than most other lens materials. Polarized Lenses also are in demand for sport sunglasses because they reduce glare from light reflecting off flat surfaces, such as water or a field of snow. However, debates continue about advisability of polarized lenses for sports sunglasses such as downhill and mogul skiing, because you may need to see sunlight reflecting from icy patches on the slopes to avoid accidents.

Though glass lenses have the best optical quality of conventionally produced lenses, they are not recommended for rugged activities because they are more likely to shatter on impact than lenses made of poly carbonate or other materials.
