Polarized Sunglasses Can Make All The Difference

Brennan Halbersma

It’s not news to everyone that having polarized sunglasses covering your eyes is a must for eye protection. I believe that every time you go out on the lake, no matter how short of a time, you should shield your eyes from the sun’s harmful, damaging rays. Having polarized sunglasses can also have an effect on the number of fish you catch as well. As you might see, all sight fishermen during the spawn will be wearing sunglasses so that they can see the fish on the bottom and cast accordingly to catch some of the big bass off the beds. Having the right kind of fishing sunglasses can make a world of difference, for catching those bed fish or simply protecting one of our most important senses.

Over the past few weeks I have been testing polarized sunglasses, seeing which ones perform better than others. I’ve been testing different colors of lens as well to see which ones allow me to see greater distances under the water. One thing all the fishing sunglasses have in common is that they are polarized. When you have polarized lenses, they have a special film on them that block the “glare” that we see without sunglasses (or without polarized sunglasses).

One type of sunglasses that I have tested out that really caught my attention was FishGillz floating polarized sunglasses. And one thing that caught my attention about FishGillz sunglasses was that they floated. Now, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had somehow managed to drop my fishing sunglasses in the water and sadly watched them sink slowly down to the bottom.

I am big on protecting my eyes from the sun and I noticed that’s not the only component of FishGillz sunglasses that impressed me. A few other things that I really liked about these glasses are what they are made of, how they are made and the lens and frame material.

First off, the frame material is constructed with FishGillz Floater Core and Flex-Lite frame technology. The Floater Core technology allows FishGillz sunglasses to float without the use of any pads or straps that could reduce your vision. When you pick up these glasses, the Flex-Lite technology shines. They feel like a feather but that doesn’t mean they won’t take impact. These frames are made of a propriety high performance polymer that makes them super tough and is just what I have been looking for in durable frames. Also, these sunglasses have a UV resistant clear coat that will protect the frames themselves from UV rays and saltwater deterioration. One other important thing that these frames have is FishGillz Gator Grip Temple Locks. These are little rubber pieces near the end of the arms that help maintain a snug fit so they will stay on no matter what you’re doing.

The polarized lenses have a couple features to them that make sure they’ll protect my eyes. First, I’ll talk about what the lenses are made of. FishGillz’s lenses are made from High impact material made by the 3M Corporation. And polarization allows you to see through the glare on the water and see what’s below. This gives me great confidence in these glasses that they will hold their own no matter what gets thrown their way and that I’ll be able to see the fish on the bottom when the appropriate time comes. This next quality really sold me on FishGillz. The Opti-Glide Front Loading Lens System is exactly what is says. The lenses are loaded in the front, which means the lenses won’t be forced back to your eyes in the case of impact. This is very important to me because I want to protect my eyes in every way. If I get hung up on a branch or tree out of the water and I pop it loose and it flies back and me, I won’t have to worry about my eyes because I know that they will be protected to the max. As you can see from the picture up above, these glasses also have a little side lens. This is called the Polar-Shield Side Panel and I think this is a great idea because it gives you that much more protection from the sun and allows the light coming in from the side to be blocked out as well.

In addition to all of the important components of FishGillz sunglasses, they also come in many different colors, lenses and frames. Everything from the newest fad, white frames, to the traditional black frames, FishGillz has something to match your style. They even have pink frames for the ladies! The lenses are an important part of the sunglasses and matching them to the conditions can make all the difference. Gray lenses are great for bright conditions because the dim the light to ease the strain on your eyes. Orange and amber lenses are better for the dark, cloudy days because they brighten everything you look at making it easier to see. Brown polarized lenses are a good all around choice. They block light even in super bright conditions but also allow great depth perception and clarity.
